"Summary"
A Crisis in Artsakh: A Campaign of Cultural Genocide Armenians are indigenous to Artsakh, which Azerbaijan refers to as Nagorno-Karabakh. Artsakh is a cradle of Armenian spiritual, historical, and cultural life. During the soviet era, Artsakh first fell under the control of Azerbaijan, who led pogroms against the indigenous population and began a campaign of destroying Armenian monuments and cultural heritage. Their policy of ethnic cleansing was aimed not only at displacing Armenians from their ancestral homeland, but entirely re-writing history to assert their false claims to the territory.
