In the Land of Blood and Tears: Experiences in Mesopotamian during the World War (1914-1918)

Kunzler, Jakob.
Arlington, Mass.: Armenian Cultural Foundation, 2007, 187 pages. ISBN 0-9674621-8-5.

Description:
From 1899 to 1922 Jakob Kunzler and his wife Elisabeth worked in a mission hospital in the multi-ethnic city of Urfa. He saw at close hand how the Young Turk war regime carried out genocide against the Ottoman Armenians - the first genocide of the Twentieth century. During his vacation at home in Basel in 1919/1920 Kunzler wrote down his experiences in plain language. His disturbing report is a unique historical document, and, as paradoxical as it may seem, a declaration of love to a country of different religions and languages and its people.
