April 7, 2000
STATE OF MAINE BE IT KNOWN TO ALL THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, JOIN IN RECOGNIZING the 85th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. On April 24, 1915, a campaign was launched against the Armenian people that resulted in the death of over 1.5 million Armenians. Some of the survivors of the genocide settled in the State of Maine, and their children have contributed significantly to the benefit of Maine. We join our citizens of Armenian heritage on April 24, 2000 in remembering this even, and we express our deepest sympathy for those who perished; AND BE IT ORDERED THAT THIS OFFICIAL EXPRESSION OF SENTIMENT BE SENT FORTHWITH ON BEHALF OF THE LEGISLATURE AND THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MAINE.
